In this story the character we call Alexis is smoking tobacco. Granted this is the additive and chemical free good old organic kind, but let me clarify that I rarely smoke so by no means am I promoting it to encourage anyone to do so.

I used to be disgusted by its act and even judged the people around me who did. How could they do that to their bodies? (Meanwhile I was deep in an eating disorder and mentally hated every part of myself), but hey i drank my green juice and bought a crystal so it was all good. right?

The more I ran from anything “dark” or “bad for me” the more darkness seeped into my life uncontrollably because I was rejecting a part of what makes me whole. the more exaggerated the light, the bigger the shadow.

If we are to deny our darkness than we deny our light. I’ve come to an understanding within myself that I have no interest in bypassing my humanity and appearing to be something. we have enough of that. what’s really powerful is someone who embraces both sides because they understand the beauty of their paradox.

You don’t have to down green juice and wake up at sunrise every morning to be spiritual. what’s spiritual is letting none of this define you, because you are in fact the paradox. you are both parts good and evil, light and darkness.

You know whats effected me more than smoking or drinking or eating the wrong foods? The shame and guilt I felt for doing so. I now move with the current of my desires, regardless of what it looks like to others.

inside our anger is our truth that hasn’t stopped burning. So if this picture angers you, sit with the sting.
