Context: I have been seeing a hummingbird every day since I started @countylineflorals so I’ve grown accustomed to these hard working, transformational, floral loving, spirit guides. Gentle reminders to keep going & my dad is near. But yesterday eve was on another level. I was on the phone in our backyard with a co-worker & suddenly this hummingbird landed a few feet in front of me. I watched her. And she was just, for lack of a better descriptor, hanging out. I had never seen one just hang. Perched. Not constantly aflutter (like me.) On the backyard tile. I thought something might be wrong. Then she took off again. Busy as ever. And I’m like ok, back to business. Then all of a sudden she was nose diving, beak first, for my face. I ducked. Making a ruckus. I thought she got caught in my hair. Nowhere to be found... I continued my conversation back in the backyard chair I take calls from. Then I looked down & she was perched upon the breast pocket on my jacket: chilling. I squealed. She then fluttered to down under the table. Shellshocked & askance. (Both of us.) Yet, she wanted to be near me. Wherever I was, kept hopping closer, unafraid. Looking for warmth. She then got disoriented & tried to fly away, but alas. The hummingbird agency was called. Sugar water, a dropper, and a make shift nest prepared. The “Lady” Hummingbird Chronicles will be on stories. She’s tucked in a Lanvin shoebox (saved from a trip to Paris in 2014 for such an occasion) with a cloth under her for comfort & sweet medicine every 30 minutes.
