I accumulated knowledge and they made connections via synapses in my brain, resulting in inspirations that I then turned into artwork. That was how I made my debut as an artist. I am reliving those early days filled with excitement, when I tried out so many things with mixed results, as I now contemplate my apparel projects. It was my encounter—actually, re-encounter—with Virgil Abloh that got me started thinking about fashion. Virgil @virgilabloh , of course, is the artistic director of Louis Vuitton Men, the genius creator who made his Off-White the coolest brand in the world. He used to assist Kanye West @kanyewest for about a decade and I had met him for the first time in 2007 when he accompanied Kanye and visited my office in Tokyo. I have since met on Instagram a few context creators, including @samutaro , if you will, who constantly excavate and explore fashion contexts. And oh, I can’t forget to mention my encounter with Cherry @_________cherry_______ . After first meeting on Instagram, we came to know one another in person and he has taught me a lot about fashion. When I contemplate the historical contexts encompassing fashion, street culture, and art, my brain becomes filled with freshness I had experienced before my debut, and I get so excited. For starters, I launched CONTeXT @context_takashipom as an apparel line, but I am now thinking that I could explore this line in art as well. For example, I have already been creating a series of works involving spray texts, another series called Excuse Painting that heavily involves text, and various artworks that derived from my collaboration projects.
