July 21st last year I broke my collar bone, mid shaft, 2 centimetre displacement. My friend Lane Edwards drove me 4 hours to an ER. Docs looked at the X-Ray and recommended surgery. I declined. They sent me off with painkillers and a sling. I kept the sling and threw the drugs in the trash. You see, I have been down this road. I know first hand the pain and misery that accompanies getting caught in the Pharmacological spider web. If I’m granted permission, someday I’ll share that story.
I researched alternative healing practices in town and found an osteopath from Wuhan China who practices ‘bone setting’ he bent me back into shape and wove a figure 8 wrap around me that could be hidden under my costumes (I was only 1 week into a 3 week shoot). I had many voices in my ear question the choice, the long term effects, never fully healing etc. They meant well, I know. But I also know that the human body is an exquisite self-healer. I had momentary doubts along the way, months later I’d still get electric shocks of pain just from rolling over in bed while sleeping. At 6 months I could run, 7 do push-ups and 8 do chin-ups, now a bit over 9 I’m fine.
