It’s been fundamental to the advancement of human rights in my homeland Argentina, from achieving recognition of the thousands of disappearances that took place under the military junta, to defending the rights of indigenous peoples who have been displaced from their ancestral lands. While living in the United States, I’ve been moved by Amnesty’s relentless work to push-back against human rights violations by the US government during its so-called, “War on Terror”; including Amnesty’s work against the proliferation of private military contractors that have profited from human suffering and engaged in violations of international and domestic law. I believe Amnesty International is the voice of the voiceless, making sure human rights abuses are not hidden, but documented and addressed.
