Something which existed in my lifetime, and which I experienced with my mum, visiting South Africa as a child.  When people speak hypothetically (outside of crises like these) about how they would stand up to oppression or do what's right in the face of genocidal regimes, there often seems to be a  distance between what they "would do" and what we need to do now that it's here.  I've been a pain in the ass for years about Indian fascism & Modi (I don't see my future visas being approved at this point!) - my family are also Gujarati and Muslim so again, I've seen the reality of ethnic cleansing and state approved killing in my lifetime. You know the current Indian leader used to be banned from the US and the UK for his part in the religious violence in India? It's amazing how quickly this stuff is forgiven by Westerners with no interest other than a financial one.  All this to say I will continue to name the things which are deeply wrong, and will accept the frustration of social media followers and the potential loss of work as necessary sacrifices. I have no idea the extent to which our digital lives will be preserved 100 years from now, but imagine there was an analysis of how people used their voices in moments of global horror.
