Hi everyone! I’m Ai-jen Poo, director of the @caringacrossgen and @domesticworkers.

Thank you for letting me take over your account, Hailey, during Women’s History Month. I’m so grateful for this chance to shine a light on our nation’s 53 million family caregivers – the nannies, house cleaners, home care workers, and family caregivers – who care for us, for our loved ones and our homes in times of crisis and stability.

They are mostly women and predominantly Black, Latinx, and Asian women and immigrants. And do the work that makes it possible for others – especially women – to go to work. Yet the sector is defined by low wages, and few benefits. Care is essential to our society, but it is undervalued.

We’ve seen the devastating cost of not investing in care, on our grandparents, people with disabilities, and essential workers.

It might have taken a pandemic to see how childcare, paid leave and home and community care are essential infrastructure. But just like roads, bridges and broadband, all of us need care. That’s why we need YOU more than ever -- to win and build what matters most.

So I’m asking for your help to go beyond the quick fixes. If we want lasting racial and economic justice, our time is now for bold, permanent change. There is too much at stake for all of us, especially women of color.
