Hi there. Today, you might feel scared. I know what it feels like to be scared. My name is @amandangocnguyen and after my rape, I felt despair. But I also felt fire. So when I met a broken criminal justice system -- like so many survivors whose rape kits have been destroyed without notice -- I rewrote the law. Together, with my team at @risenow.us , we organized and did the impossible -- passed the Survivors’ Bill of Rights unanimously through the United States Congress.

I wrote it as a matter of survival. If that bill could speak, it would scream. It would sing from the pages. It would light itself on fire. It represents the endless pursuit of a more perfect world. This is what I did with my fire. What will you do with yours?

There is a long, rich tradition of activism in the world—of people taking their painful living truths and channeling them into justice. I chose to join that tradition by penning my own civil rights into existence. Now, I’m helping others pen their own civil rights into existence, too. From combating anti-asian hate crimes, to voting rights, to women’s rights - at Rise we’re putting democracy back into your hands. I’m proud to say we’ve passed 33 laws for 85 million people. But the work isn’t done.

The world is going through a moment of reckoning now. The people who have the solutions to the world’s most pressing problems are the people that live the problem every day. Know that your voice matters. Community organizing matters. No one is powerless when we come together. No one can make us invisible when we demand to be seen.
