💫 Mary W. Jackson: NASA’s first Black female engineer – and so much more.
A “Hidden Figure'' hidden no more, Mary was part of a group of very important women who helped our agency succeed in getting American astronauts into space. Never accepting the status quo, she helped break barriers and open opportunities for African Americans and women in the field of engineering and technology. On top of all of this – Mary was a mother, a teacher, a mentor, a Girl Scout leader, and a friend to many.
Today, in her honor, we named the NASA Headquarters building in Washington, D.C. for Mary W. Jackson. Her commitment to excellence, diversity, inclusion, and teamwork represents the best of this agency and the future of NASA!
