Between 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe Using tactics like gas chambers, concentration camps and firing squads. Around two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population were killed. The U.S. Millennial Holocaust Knowledge and Awareness Survey is the first 50-state survey on Holocaust knowledge among millennials and Gen Z, according to a press release on September 16th 2020. It revealed a "worrying lack of basic Holocaust knowledge" among adults under 40, including over 1 in 10 respondents who did not recall ever having heard the word "Holocaust" before. Sixty-three percent of survey respondents did not know 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust. Thirty-six percent thought that "two million or fewer Jews" were killed during the Holocaust. Forty-eight percent could not name a single camp or ghetto established during World War II, despite the fact that there were more than 40,000 of them. A native of Hungary, Dr. Edith Eva Eger was just a teenager in 1944 when she experienced one of the worst evils the human race has ever known. As a Jew living in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe, she and her family were sent to Auschwitz, the heinous death camp. Her parents were sent to the gas chambers but Edith’s bravery kept her and her sister alive.
