He looks so peaceful and rested. Yesterday I had a consultation with the surgeon from London. We discussed Ashton’s previous scans and the operations being considered in March. I felt deflated after the meeting. I couldn’t give Ashton the news he wanted, I couldn’t tell him how this cancer is going to play out, I couldn’t offer a light at the end of the tunnel, I couldn’t tell him how this tumour and it’s removal will impact him long term, we still have lots of unanswered questions. Neither of the options being considered are what we hoped for. Ashton reacted by deciding he didn’t want to talk about the operation and I aloud myself a down day. We let our emotions play out which ever way they wanted. I reminded myself, It’s ok not to be ok. Disappointment, sadness, frustration, guilt, anger... I’d been expecting some of these emotions to visit me sooner. This is part of our journey, acceptance. We are processing the reality we are facing, and as it isn’t the reality we hoped for, this is going to provoke some down days and that’s ok. We know we can get through tough days, we’ve got a 100% track record. And today was no different. I called my family, friends, and I talked it out, I let it out, I let my emotions flow. We are grieving our old lives and we need time to adjust, and then we can focus on readjusting. I like the saying ‘a bad day doesn’t mean a bad life’ Tough days make tough people, and Ashton my boy, you are going to be unstoppable.
