While he did ask for that amount in offering that’s not why we were there. Our organization demonstrated at this particular church for several reasons. What even got us to looking into this particular church and this particular pastor was due to him allowing Donald Trump to come campaign in the heart of Detroit where the people of the community did not want him. While this is what initiated the visit to the church it was not the entire reason. We felt that while we didn’t agree with his decision to allow Donald Trump to come campaign in one of the blackest communities in Michigan, as organizers (not activists) we wanted to do more research on the churches involvement with the people in that particular community as well as his investment in the specific area in which his church resides. Great Faith Ministries sits in the 48204 zip code: Population: 96.9% Black Median Household Income: 25k-30k Unemployment Rate: 18.7% School test performance: Poor 98.6% of kids that attend school in that area are black kids. Now we are not the people who think that if you are a pastor, you shouldn't have nice things. We all want nice things. But pulling up to a “church” that sits in a community with the average household income at 25k driving a 600k vehicle while most of the people we talked to in the community barely knows you is problematic. What’s more troubling is, this is the same story with mega churches in black communities across the country. This was a demonstration to all Mega churches in America with a Billion Dollar industry to practice what they preach.
