This was just one of my grandfather’s many adventures in the Himalaya, and one of many first ascents with his team. Others included The Trango Tower, Dhaulagiri, and the first ascent of Everest’s eastern face. Tomorrow my grandpa will receive the honorary membership award at The American Alpine Club annual gala. I am proud of his accomplishments, but his leadership, courage, work ethic, and drive to make a positive impact are what I respect the most. At 84, James has touched many lives, but not only in the mountains. He is a practicing heart surgeon, a father, a husband, and a grandfather.
