I won't be long, but that's how I see it: eventually knee-pads will become a normal everyday use in climbing future. Many things got easier and different when those came out. I like the progress in climbing. But what if...what if we find a new equipment that will make our climbing even easier? Will we downgrade everything what was set up as a new standard in climbing? Where does that lead our sport? My temporary solution is, when repeating "old lines" that were first climbed without knee-pads, we should do the same way (or climb it in any other way, but not publish it). And please, don't say that the shoes are also different than they use to be...at least free climbing was born with them and that's what is call progression in climbing gear. Not knee-pads. Here on the picture is me, repeating @fred_nicole old classic Mandragore. It was graded 8b+, without using a knee-pad and later got downgraded due to knee-pad usage. Anyway, I'm super happy to repeat that line both ways in a short session 😁🤌🏻.
