Three days before their 1964 autumn tour of the UK, The Beatles were at Abbey Road with an idea for a song.
This was the first time they had gone into the studio with an unfinished number, but it was a way of working that would become increasingly common over the next few years.
They spent nearly four hours on ‘Eight Days A Week’ that day, and for the following two weeks the consensus was that it would be their next single.
“I’d been busted for speeding, so I had to have a driver to take me to John’s house. We were chatting on the way and I said, ‘How you been, you been busy?’ ‘Oh yeah, I’ve been working eights days a week’. I went into the house and said, ‘Right, I’ve got the title.’ ” - Paul
