The homie @comediangodfrey is great for this but to add on, everything has a context. In America, in South Africa, in England, all over the world one of the ways that racist white people expressed their disdain for black people had always been to spit on them. A white person, especially an elderly white person who was around when racism was more publicly acceptable, spitting on a black person for ANY reason is racist. The historical context makes it so. This is the same reason it's always racist for white people to use "nigga" as a term of endearment even when they don't have negative intentions doing so. The woman being spit on doesn't have to think the action is racist for it to be racist. Godfrey is right to respect her, but he is also right to call out the racism at play. ✊🏾
