Caturday calls, and the serval (Leptailurus serval) is here to answer. This long-legged predator lives in the grasslands of southern Africa, using its acute sense of hearing to detect prey. Fun fact: it has the longest legs-to-body ratio of any cat species and uses its height—and its large oval ears—to scan tall grasses for rodents, like rats and shrews. Once locked in on a target, the serval sneaks up on its soon-to-be meal, leaps up to 9.8 feet (3 meters) in the air, and pounces on its prey.
