To say that I was blown away is an understatement. American Skin is a painfully relevant story, acted with such dynamic performances and directed with an artful creative precision. I was so affected by this film I had to immediately post about it. I tagged the writer director @origi_nate (Nate Parker) and to my surprise Nate was in my comments confessing his appreciation that I recommended his film to everyone with eyes (and without). Via DM… I told him that I too am a story teller and that my partner and I @directordevinhampton were producing a short film also with a pretty relevant and timely story. I also told him that we were having a lil trouble casting the lead actor. To my surprise Nate said, “Send me the script”. I did so immediately. Here’s the weird part (people in LA kow what Im talkin bout..) THE NEXT DAY HE ACTUALLY READ IT. And recommended a brilliant actor from the awesome ensemble of AMERICAN SKIN.(@Ryan.mulkay) After a zoom meeting with Ryan, Devin and I were convinced that OF COURSE Nate was correct in his casting recommendation. (Ryan was brilliant in my film by the way!) Moral of the story is..if you don’t already have any selections for weekend viewing…WATCH AMERICAN SKIN!! Not only because you owe it to yourself to see such a profoundly significant film..but because you’ll be supporting Nate Parker, a true gem of a human being. Nate never met me before…Nate is an award winning accomplished actor/writer/director. He didn’t have to help me. But he did....just because. And as a lotta y’all know, folk you known for years sometime wont even lend a hand. Nate went out of his way to help a stranger…a fellow storyteller...and Im forever grateful !
