Namibia’s Okavango Delta, a protected wetland that provides crucial habitat for wildlife, lies about 160 miles downstream of a site in a riverbed where ReconAfrica began test drilling for oil and gas on January 11.

Africa’s largest remaining herd of savanna elephants moves through ReconAfrica's license area. The company plans to conduct a seismic survey, which biologists say could disrupt the sensitive animals.
