I am a 22-year-old environmental justice advocate, writer and Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford. Today I will be taking over Mark’s Instagram account as part of the Reclaiming Our Time campaign, a joint initiative by @blackgirlenvironmentalist, @passthemicclimate, and @generation__green to highlight Black climate activists at the forefront of addressing the climate crisis. I am currently a student at the University of Oxford where I study & research at the intersections of policy, race, and environment. I am also the founder of @blackgirlenvironmentalist, an intergenerational community of Black girls, womxn and non-binary environmentalists. A supportive community, we exist as a vital space for underrepresented voices in the mainstream environmental movement to be centered, rather than sidelined. (Follow and support our work!!!) As an organizer and writer, I work to ensure the environmental movement is one made in the image of all of us, one genuinely vested in achieving justice for all people - regardless of race, gender, or class. I am grounded by the principles of environmental justice, a framework that calls for the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people in the development and implementation of environmental policies. I believe that this goal is achievable if we understand that there is no such thing as “sacrifice zones” without sacrificing people. We must all fight for a world that tolerates neither.
