A new study from Harvard and University College London has found that air pollution from burning fossil fuels is responsible for 1 in 5 deaths in the world. More than 8 million people died in 2018 from fossil fuel pollution, significantly higher than previously thought. We now have evidence that the air we breathe is literally killing us. We must act if we want to keep millions from dying prematurely and unnecessarily every year. That means demanding governments divest from #FossilFuels, end fossil fuel corporate subsidies, phase out the use of fossil fuels altogether, invest in clean and renewable energy, provide a just transition for extractive workers, and ensure equity for communities of color who, for decades, have been most disproportionately impacted.
