That season was going very well for me and specially very well for my ribbon routine! Silver🥈 in Valentine Cup and Thiais Grand Prix, Gold 🥇 in the European Games test event... and here came the annual Lisboa World Cup. Lisbon was always very welcoming and kind of lucky for me (yes gymnasts always have lucky and unlucky countries 😂 me at least 🤷🏼‍♀️) and after finishing 5th at the All-around competition, I was in a great mood for the finals. The finals started quite well as I finished 4th with the hoop and a bronze medal 🥉 with ball. Clubs brought me a 4th place and here came the ribbon....I often heard from many respected coaches and RG professionals that, “ she, who does the ribbon, wins”. And I really agree with this statement. Ribbon is a very difficult apparatus which can be affected by environmental factors such as wind, moisture and heat. It is always the last apparatus in the event finals and gymnasts literally use their last source of energy to complete the ribbon routine. I loved performing with ribbon, and I always wanted to finish the competition with a great performance. Lisbon World Cup was not an exception... I entered the competition area and performed a clean routine. Only at the middle of the performance, as I was doing a combination of dancing steps trying to smile at the judges, I realised that they were not judging me!🤷🏼‍♀️ Yes, I could notice some kind of hustle going on, and the judges were just watching my performance and smiling 😅. “What was going on?!” I thought.
