Some things don’t change: The 2600-year old Shwedagon Pagoda, photographed on my first trip to Myanmar in 2001, is the oldest in Myanmar. Every morning at sunrise, the Buddhist faithful volunteer to sweep the grounds of the country's most sacred site. The gilded 170-meter pagoda, now a World Heritage site, sits atop a 50-meter hill dominating the Yangon skyline. On my first visit, photojournalists were not permitted to enter the country.
