This day last year I was in the Gershwin, being led from dressing room to dressing room, meeting all of the cast members of Wicked. And I was rehearsing. And I was overwhelmed with a sense of purpose and gratitude. This year I am at home, alive, in love, about to sign into a lesson with a student, and in a bit of an emotional limbo. I’m sure many of you out there are feeling that limbo too. Idk what I’m trying to say really except that I am grateful for the time I’ve been given. I’m grateful to have gotten Covid last spring and survived it. I’m grateful to be learning and being accountable. I’m grateful to be engaged to my best friend. I’m grateful for my healthy relationships. I’m grateful for my recovery. I wanna take this moment to acknowledge that me getting sober meant a lot of pain for others. It took great sacrifice to get me here. It took immense heartbreak and me treading on boundaries to get here. It’s not a pretty story. I’m not proud of what I have grown from. But I am willing to keep doing so. And I am willing to remain accountable. I walk through this life with great privilege. And I hope to continue this year with an open mind, open arms and a willingness to shut up, listen and be of service in any way I can.
