OFI is hard at work rescuing wild orangutans with the Indonesian Forestry Department. This adult male cheekpadder was rescued from a banana plantation and the horrifying open wound on his head was made by a human wielding a machete. Our OFI veterinarian has sewed up the wound & this poor orangutan has been taken to a quarantine facility. Once his wound heals he will be released to a secure forest on the boundary of Tanjung Puting National Park, an area patrolled by OFI and government rangers. The number of wounded wild orangutans OFI has rescued in the past year has grown tremendously as the forests of Borneo continue to fall and wild orangutan populations are decimated. __________________________________
