Danny Ray. A man so skilled at his job he damn near shut out the competition. He was THE ORIGINAL hype man. He was the “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” In the sentence of the @JamesBrown show. There is #DomPardo there is #SidMccoy there is #RitaMoreno (look I’m from a generation raised on “HEEEEEY YOOOOU GUUUUUYS” which was damn near neck in neck with #JoeCobb’ “The SOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUULLLL TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!”)—-of course there is #RodRoddy (COME ON DOWN!!”) & #MichaelBuffer (“uuuuuuhllllllllETS GET READY TO RUMBLE”)—-I mean #ElwoodEdwards isn’t associated w tv per se but yet his “you got mail” is the start of online/social media zone.

Man...let’s not even get into @flavorflavofficial @spliffstar_mrlewis @sendog the late #FreakyTah & all those in the hypeman hall of fame.
Danny & the #GorgeousGeorge cape routine brought theatrics to the post minstrel era of black entertainment in the late 50s/early 60s with absolutely the best traveling show in all of music. He stayed with Brown’s show til his death Christmas Morning 2006. I believe this photo was from the Grammys 2007. This was such a haunting moment watching him bring out the cape just one last time—-we were stunned sitting in the audience. In a genius move the great @chrmcbride added Ray to his shows as announcer soon after. One night he came to announce US at a jam session in NYC. He was so laid back & cool man. He was ALWAYS clean. I mean everyday he dressed like he was going to an awards ceremony. Such a class act. Rest In Peace brother Ray.
