There were a few times in my childhood when I was struck by the genius of an actor. I will never forget sitting in my family’s basement apartment on the South Side of Chicago watching Cicely Tyson in Sounder and then later in the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. It was the first time I thought about acting as magic, I thought how did she DO that? I always hoped we would meet someday so I would be able to show my gratitude. She was magic.
We share a birthday. Whenever I blow out my candles sending up wishes I will send up a prayer for you, Ms Tyson. Thank you for sharing your soul on film. Rest in Power #CicelyTyson
