Cicely Tyson, the legendary actress whose career spanned six decades and dozens of film credits, has died at 96. Tyson was a pioneering figure in Hollywood, a Black woman who broke boundaries after landing leading roles on stage, in film, and in television. In 2019, Viola Davis called the honorary Oscar winner “elegance personified,“ and went on to write: “She is excellence. She is courage.
