People often ask me what I work on most in the gym to help me to improve my game.

During lockdown there are still things you can do at home to help improve your fitness for when everyone returns to the table.

For me there are 3 very important aspects to focus on and they are core stability, balance and weight transfer.

Core stability is super important when it comes to switching from forehand to backhand. Balance is key for every shot so that you can maintain good technique and finally having good weight transfer is absolutely vital in order to produce maximum power, speed and spin.

At home you can do many body weight exercises that do not require any equipment or a lot of space. It’s import to remember in table tennis your muscles have to be fast not big and slow.

Some of my favourite exercises to improve all three of these aspects include sit ups, planks, explosive push ups, split squats, lunges, box jumps and single leg Romanian deadlifts.
