These children in the Philippines are going to great lengths to access the internet so they can continue learning during COVID-19.

10-year-old Jhay studies and catches up on online classes on the roof of his shanty, 11-year-old Lovely in a cemetery and 18-year-old Mark in a forest. “The pandemic is no reason for me to stop learning”, he says.

Jester (20), Almer (21), Rosemine and Jenebyl (19) trek up a mountain every day until they pick up an internet signal. They’ve even built a hut there to provide shelter when it rains and to sleep in when they stay late to work on assignments.

UNICEF is calling for urgent investment to bridge the digital divide. Connecting every child and young person to the internet and ensuring access to quality digital learning is more important than ever.
