I’ve been truly soaking up and enjoying every minute of my 39th birthday today. It’s been semi quiet, small and I find it’s exactly what I wanted. I spent today with my girls, my man (who spoiled me this weekend) and my parents who SURPRISED me with a socially distanced quick hello on the patio that meant the WORLD to me. A special surprise, for sure, even if only for a short bit. I got such thoughtful gifts from the ones I love, including a beautiful new cacti terrarium to add to my growing succulent collection from @ghostfacelito (he’s accepted I’m becoming a weirdo plant lady) and pictures of the sloths he adopted for me at Christmas! As well as a “Dorothy” from Golden Girls from some dear friends of mine @gemmanarmstrong @inglisjoan @kendra_felder18 and a very funny gift from Zo (I’ll post later. there’s a story behind it, but it made me laugh!!)
But this past weekend was the best of all. My man booked us a little studio place WAAAAY out in the middle of the desert and I unplugged. No people (we stayed Covid safe and solo!) I didn’t read the news, I didn’t go on social media, I didn’t text or play games on my phone. I was just PRESENT. I’m lucky that I have someone who knows when I just need quiet time away, to nap, read, lay in the sun like a little lizard on a rock... all the best stuff to recharge. Thank you for that @ghostfacelito, it was perfect.
Birthdays now aren’t about a huge celebration and longing for attention and THINGS, like it was as a kid. It’s about reflecting on where I was the last year and where I am now. How life has changed, how I have changed, and what comes next.
So... what I see next is the BEST birthday present ever On Inauguration Day 2021.
Then, who knows?
I’ve certainly learned one thing between last birthday and now... it all will change. In an INSTANT. In a week. In a year. Life changes and then we adapt.
And in between all the changing and the chaos and the crazy are the really wonderful moments of stillness. Today, I’ve celebrated both. Quiet time alone and fun, silly times with my family.
