Happy First Birthday Baby Boy! I always knew I wanted to write Cayson something for his first bday . I thought about his first year, and how funny it is that it meant the world to me, and yet he won’t remember any of it. I’m sure many of you mommas can relate.
You won’t remember the first time we touched, how you snuggled your head into my neck like you belonged there and I found a little piece of the purpose I’ve been searching for my whole life;
But I will.

You wont remember the tears I cried and the guilt I felt the day the doctors told me my milk was hurting you instead of nurturing you, how you’d be better without;
But I will.

You won’t remember the way your face lit up every time Daddy walked into the room, the way he got you to smile for the very first time and countless times thereafter,
But I will.

You wont remember the endless nights I stayed up rummaging through the bottomless bag of worry that appeared the moment you took your first breath and will accompany me till I take my last,
But I will.

You wont remember how with every smile that revealed those sweet dimples and every laugh that filled this home, you healed this heart that is all too familiar with loss and longed for a happiness like yours,
But I will.

You won’t remember the countless nights you slept on my chest, just you and I snuggled on your chair because Momma was all you really wanted, and I couldn’t find the words to thank God enough for making me yours;
But I will.

You won’t remember those first steps, eyes locked on me with a big smile as you wobbled to my arms, and somewhere in my heart I knew it won’t always be this way, even though my arms will remain forever wide open to you;
But I will.

You won’t remember the tears behind the encouragement as you hit every milestone because with every goal met, you closed another chapter of your beautiful story that I wanted to live in forever,
But I will.
You won’t remember your first year, the year that made me a momma,
But Baby Boy, I will never forget.
