For taking photographs in the snow, use a lens hood to keep snowflakes off the front of the lens. Experiment with shutter speed. A slow shutter speed will render the individual flakes as streaks, while a faster shutter speed will make falling snow more visible - especially if you include dark backgrounds in your photos.
