There was no easy way to capture this magical moment in Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska, as a retreating storm revealed a rainbow above Tustumena glacier. The helicopter I was traveling in was battered by the wind and rain as we circled around looking for a place to land. Eventually we found a spot, but high winds limited any real opportunity to explore. This is a rugged, wild area and I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in this refuge with USFWS, the agency who manages this area. Kenai may be one of the most visited refuges, but few people get deep into the backcountry where scenes like this abound.
