Scapegoating mental health harms people with mental illnesses, the majority of whom will never harm another person. It particularly harms BIPOC with mental illness, who are disproportionately targeted by state violence. Mentally ill people are much more likely to be victims of violence than to enact violence. . To be clear, it is absolutely necessary to address individual racism. But racism is not a mental illness, and conflating the two is rooted in ableism (which is also rooted in white supremacy - you can't separate these things - and why being anti-ableism must also mean being anti-racist, anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist, etc). White supremacy is propped up by systems that benefit from oppression, systems that feed white nationalism to maintain their power, and fan the flames of individual hatred.
