According to the WHO, more than 950 million people in the world need glasses but cannot afford them. A global problem which even today surprises many people, made our founder Martin Aufmuth rethink this in 2010. In the 1-Euro shops known throughout Germany you can even buy reading glasses, while in many countries of the world glasses would hardly or never be affordable for many people. Within months Martin Aufmuth developed the very first onedollarglasses and in 2012 our association is founded. The idea: To make high-quality glasses as easy as possible to produce, so that production and sales can take place directly on site. Our Name derived from the goal to reach all those people who have to live on 1 US-Dollar or less a day and because of the material costs of the glasses - also almost 1 Dollar (80 Cents). Eight years have passed since then and a lot has happened. We are active in 8 countries and employ around 500 people worldwide.

Mehr als 950 Millionen Menschen auf der Welt bräuchten laut WHO eine Brille, können Sie sich aber nicht leisten. Ein globales Problem, das auch heute noch viele eher überrascht, hat unseren Gründer Martin Aufmuth 2010 zum Nachdenken gebracht. In den deutschlandweit bekannten 1-Euro Läden gibt es sogar Lesebrillen zu kaufen, während in vielen Ländern der Welt Brillen für viele Menschen kaum oder niemals bezahlbar wären. In seinem Waschkeller entwickelte Martin Aufmuth die erste EinDollarBrille und 2012 wird unser Verein gegründet. Die Idee: Eine qualitativ hochwertige Brille so einfach wie möglich herstellbar zu machen, damit Produktion und Verkauf direkt vor Ort passieren können. Der Name EinDollarBrille entsteht durch das Ziel, all diejenigen Menschen zu erreichen die von 1 Dollar oder weniger am Tag leben müssen und auf Grund der Materialkosten der Brille – ebenfalls knapp 1 Dollar (80 Cent). Acht Jahre sind seitdem vergangen und es hat sich viel getan. Wir sind in 8 Ländern aktiv und beschäftigt rund 500 Menschen weltweit.
