As Saturday dawned on a White House in turmoil, with President Trump unable to communicate on Twitter and other platforms, momentum for impeaching him a second time was rapidly growing among rank-and-file Democrats and some Republicans.

Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska became the first Republican senator to follow Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lead in calling for Trump’s impeachment if he did not resign immediately.

“I want him out,” Murkowski told The Anchorage Daily News. “He has caused enough damage.”

House Democrats intend to introduce an article of impeachment on Monday charging Trump with “willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States.” No president has ever been impeached twice for high crimes and misdemeanors. A second impeachment could set up a final showdown of the Trump era, testing accountability and the Constitution.
