Yes, she was beautiful and a great actress but there was something more, something deeper. We were friends on the set of pretty little liars but it never went beyond that. I always thought about her fondly and watched her success from afar. One night, a month ago, I read a post on her Instagram in which she announced that she has struggled with bipolar disorder most of her life. I now understood why we had to keep each other at an arm’s distance. As someone who has struggles with anxiety, I know what it feels like to hide and to feel deep shame. Our secrets don’t keep us safe, even though we feel they do. So today, we talked and talked and talked. And opened up about her rough road to her bipolar diagnosis, checking into a mental hospital and how her life now is thriving in every possible way. Her story will help so many.
