Todd Michel Smith was one of the first cast members to welcome me into Hairspray on Broadway. He was kind, he was hilarious and he was wildly talented. I will always be grateful to him and in awe of his kindness and heart. Repost from @marc_shaiman

To the HAIRSPRAY Family, I'm sad to report that Todd Michel Smith passed away this morning. He had been sick for many years and the torture he went through is now over. His wife Michele would love for their daughter Peyton Rose to see how much her dad was loved and respected, so, please, feel free to post here. God speed Todd Michel, a heart breaker in life and now, sadly, in death. Here he is in all his orange splendor. One can only hope Dick Latessa was there to greet him and that they are dancing right now ❤️ It should, it must be noted that Todd was in the ENTIRE run of the show on Broadway, only out for the BRAIN SURGERY that started his long illness. He went back into the show the SECOND his doctors allowed. A commitment to attendance that is, I'm sad to say, almost extinct on Broadway now. Thank you for that Todd Michel.
