All of them but one man and that man’s name was August Landmesser. August had been a member of the Nazi party for a few years before this picture was taken. As time went by he did not agree with the terror and bedlam that the nazis were imposing on the Jewish people. He was an aryan man in love with a Jewish woman but their relationship was forbidden! For posterity’s sake I hope that we can all agree that hitler and the nazi regime committed unspeakable atrocities and anyone who celebrates them today are on the wrong side of history. Now in 2020 you can clearly see that August was on the right side of history, as every man around him was not! It is not easy to stand against your friends and family when you know they are wrong, but we must deal with the fear and the pushback in order to speak against that which we believe to be inhumane, cruel or unjust actions against anybody, regardless of their skin color, ethnicity, religion or what country they are from.
