They say you don’t become an adult until you’re parents die ( personally I’ve never really met an ‘ adult ‘ , they are all big children, but I digress) . Mine both died in their mid 80’s . So naturally my thoughts do turn to dying. After all it’s not unimaginably far away if I follow their lives . In the media we hear about death so much recently, more heartbreaking figures and stories every day of the vile monster Covid , so not too surprising I think about my own mortality . You can either deny it , accept it or fight it. Personally I would rather fight it . In truth I feel more or less the same as when I was 16 , I’m actually healthier and probably stronger ( thanks @mikedoxey my Pilates trainer ) , I can even now do a headstand ! Couldn’t do that when I was 16 ! When I look out at the world from my eyes, from my POV , I feel just like I am the same person I was at 16 , of course I have experienced more but it’s still me . Irving Penn , possibly one of the best photographers ever lived until 92 , Oscar Neymar the architect was 103 and James Lovelock author of the brilliant book Novacene wrote it at 100 and is still going strong ! So I use their lives or at least the length of their lives to mesure my own against . I have recently been thinking that immortality or actually amortality is possible and even desirable. It smacks of power mad ego centric dictators and narcissists but it can’t be a taboo thought surely ? Why would I want to die . I would honestly rather live on not through my work but through my life not ending . Scientifically and medically it is becoming at least imaginable . I also wonder as I pour my thoughts out here if indeed there is already enough data on me to create an AI version which will take over from my flesh and blood self . Is the internet actually our paradise ? Google our angels ? If we were to ever achieve immortality it begs huge questions, is there any need for God , for heaven or for hell . Life is made precious and for many, more intense by the acknowledgment of the proximity of death . If life becomes meaningless without death then why is paradise or eternal life in heaven desirable ?」12月28日 23時45分 - nick_knight
