A product of the prolific office of George Nelson, the Coconut Chair made its debut in 1956. As our Design Director, Nelson also oversaw the promotion of the chair, including these ads. The graphics are attributed to Irving Harper, who worked in the office from 1947 to 1963. They pick up some of the same quirks of the design that continue to charm us: its sensual lines, its intrinsic warmth, its apparent comfort.
