Then have a look outside right now and find a place with a clear western horizon - and you MIGHT see something like this. Even better if you have some binoculars. The skies for us in England are hopelessly cloudy - so I didn’t even want to torture you ! But we can all enjoy this beautiful and rare view of a VERY close conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. Thanks to Damien Peach who took this in the crystal clear dark skies of Chile. Am I jealous ? Yep ! But this is a great view for us all ! 💥💥💥💥 The two planets will be close for the next few nights, so if you get a chance ... look up as soon as it’s getting dark, if the skies are clear. The beautiful pair are slowly passing each other by, and gradually sinking into the sunsets as the days go on. 💥💥💥💥 Zoom into this with your fingers to see the four giant ‘Galilean’ moons of Jupiter - all in a line like beads on a string - and lots of detail on Jupiter’s gaseous face; and the beautiful rings of Saturn - surely still the most breathtaking view in any telescope. 💥💥💥💥 There has been talk of this rare occurrence being responsible for the biblical story of the Star in the East that led the Three Wise Men to Bethlehem. I’m sorry - I don’t buy it. People in those days (especially shepherds, who also were apparently given their ‘heads up’ by the celebrated star) had no light pollution to hide the night sky, and were definitely much more attuned to celestial events than we are. They would not have been silly enough to regard a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn as anything worthy of more than passing interest. But I’m sure they enjoyed it !! Bri」12月22日 15時22分
