When Afghanistan’s first case of COVID-19 was reported in Herat, 17-year-old Somaya and her girls’ robotics team developed a low-cost ventilator to treat coronavirus patients. If approved, the prototype could be used in emergency settings where traditional ventilators are unavailable.
