Happy birthday to one of the greatest to wield a Telecaster, @キース・リチャーズ.

50 years ago today, a 1950s butterscotch blonde Telecaster, was gifted to Richards on his 27th birthday by @ericclapton while @The Rolling Stones were recording Exile on Main Street. It would earn the name Micawber, and go on to be one of his most recognizable guitars.

Besides being wielded by one of classic rock’s finest, what makes Richards’ Telecaster truly unique is its modifications. Originally, it had a single-coil pickup in the neck position, which Keith replaced with a humbucker to really add some bite. Another notable twist about that pickup is that Richards turned his backwards, causing the magnet poles to face the tail end of the guitar. Those are just some of the few modifications the infamous Telecaster boasted over the years.

From the thousands of guitars in Richards’ collection, Micawber remains his go-to guitar while on tour and in the studio. And so, the natural wear and tear from years of playing just adds to its mojo. Every time Richards’ plays the butterscotch blonde, the legend of Micawber only further cements itself into Rock & Roll history.
