Out of all the places I have traveled I think this is the most wild—Truly one of America’s last remaining areas of untouched wilderness. So many people have been fighting to save it, but with a President hell bent on drilling I knew there was a chance we would not win. When we were in Ft Yukon with the Gwich’in, whose food, way of life and spirituality depend on this land, I felt that momentum was on our side. A few days ago, the map for the planned lease sale was released. I had hoped it would be a small area. It’s not. My mind can’t stop thinking about the wolf that we stared straight into the eyes of for several minutes. The families of caribou, babies gleefully running circles around their parents. Their energy reminded me of my own kids. That trip still sits in my mind like a dream - flower laden permafrost, snowcapped mountains looming in the midsummer golden light. Its called the Serengeti of Alaska because of the way porcupine caribou can amass 10,000 strong. As they migrate, the landscape moves for miles in every direction. The bison used to do that, too. Until we killed them. Our only remaining option is to urge President Elect Joe Biden to permanently protect the Arctic when he takes office, click the link in our bio. #ProtectTheArctic #StandWithTheGwichin 📸@austinsiadak.」12月8日 5時32分 - tommycaldwell
