I am always impressed when a writer can break down complex topics and make them digestible and easy to understand. That is definitely one of the many gifts of Ijeoma's writing. She cuts to the truth...that the oppressive and toxic combination of white supremacy and patriarchy has always held back the United States and the world from forward progress, and is even destroying the planet. # She also lifts up another complex truth. That white supremacy and patriarchy is actually destroying the lives of white men as well. We must never pretend that the effects of this are comparable to the destruction of entire communities and generations of BIPOC people and womxn, and we must know how the system benefits us relative to oppressed groups and take responsibility to dismantle those systems. And yet, it is essential for white men to be learning about the ways that we have internalized the lie that it is better to live a life of competition and domination rather than cooperation and radical love for all people. And how this lie, baked deeply into our psyches, prevents us from becoming our fullest, most evolved, and loving selves.
