During the 1967 Detroit 12th Street riot, Detroit Tiger great, Willie Horton fought bravely to restore peace. He stood in his Tiger uniform on a car in the middle of the chaos, pleading for calm. However, despite his impassioned pleas, the city burned for five more days.

The next season, Mr. Horton and the Detroit Tigers would win the 1968 World Series.

Willie Horton’s stand during the riots has always been an example for me, to stand for peace in the midst of anger, because I believe anger that is unchecked and not properly focused will always be self destructive.
