Help Indigenous communities in Mesoamerica recover from back-to-back hurricanes. Hurricanes Eta and Iota, which hit Nicragua and Honduras in November, destroyed the homes and livelihoods of the Indigenous communities who protect Moskitia Forest and its biodiversity.

Central America is being severely affected by human-induced climate change. The #FiveGreatForests of Mesoamerica, which include Moskitia forest, are essential to addressing climate change and saving wildlife. Moskitia is also vital to sustaining Indigenous communities. The damage from the storms could make the forest more vulnerable to illegal land-grabs for cattle ranching and logging.

During the last 20 years, Central America has experienced 17 hurricanes annually. It’s one of the most vulnerable regions to severe weather caused by human-induced climate change.
