“Many people are familiar with the dramatic landscapes of the Faroe Islands, so as a counterpoint I wanted to photograph the delightful capital city of Tórshavn. I had a couple of hours spare so I went exploring. I was able to walk freely around parliament and the government buildings; everything was open and there was no visible security. I then stumbled upon the harbor area. It was an incredibly calm afternoon so there were perfect reflections on the water. I walked down a number of pontoons, but the boats were blocking my view. I eventually found one with a large gap in the moorings, allowing me a clear view back towards the colorful old buildings, with fishing boats moored in the foreground. I think the primary colors of the buildings, with the blue sky above (and reflected below), is what makes this image stand out so well.”
